About the opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Reporting Manager to join our collaborative Finance Department. Reporting to the General Manager, Financial Control & Reporting, you will be responsible for the delivery of timely and high-quality statutory, regulatory and group financial reporting. You will provide technical accounting leadership across the organisation, ensure strong financial governance, and support key reporting cycles in a highly regulated environment.
You will work closely with senior finance leaders, Actuarial, Risk, and external stakeholders, and lead a small high performing team, while remaining hands‑on with complex reporting requirements.
As a Financial Reporting Manager, you will:
Oversee the preparation and delivery of statutory, regulatory, and group financial reporting, including interim and year‑end reporting cycles
Lead interpretation and application of complex accounting standards, including IFRS 17, and provide technical accounting training and guidance across the business
Manage external and regulatory reporting requirements, including reporting to the RBNZ and Daiichi Life Group
Contribute to Climate‑Related Disclosures and evolving regulatory requirements in this area
Lead, coach and manage a team of Financial Accountants
Drive continuous improvement, automation, and enhancements to reporting processes and systems
About you
You are a seasoned technical accounting professional with a strong track record operating in complex and highly regulated environments. You bring strong judgement, a high level of accountability, and a proven ability to lead the delivery of critical reporting outcomes with precision.
You are known for your ability to translate complex accounting concepts into meaningful business insights for non technical audience. You are keen to understand what drives the numbers, and can explain the why as much as the what. Your hands on leadership, strong relationship building and influencing skills enable you to foster high performance within your team, collaborate effectively across the business, and support sound decision-making.
Additional attributes that may help you in succeed in the role:
CA qualification or equivalent
5+ years in a technical accounting or regulatory/statutory reporting role
Relevant work experience within the insurance industry desirable
Leadership and people development capability
Expertise in IFRS and IAS requirements, IFRS17 or IFRS15 highly preferred
Ability to communicate complex accounting concepts, and key result metrics, clearly to non‑technical stakeholders
A hands‑on, deadline‑driven approach with excellent attention to detail
